Interesting letter from Sgt. 1/c William Goehner based on Paris, just after the end of WW1. He was posted to the laboratory of Base Hospital #85, located in the Clignancourt Barracks, north Paris. He was posted there on Nov. 3rd 1918 and detached on Feb 14,1919.

Talk of watching the parade with Woodrow Wilson on the Champs Elysée (there to negotiate the Peace Treaty),  life in Paris (getting tired of the Parisian Bohemian life!), "flu", returning home, etc.

Written on Y.M.C.A.  American Expeditionary Forces paper.

Dec 14 1918
My dear Helen,
This is another big day in Paris. President Wilson arrival in Paris  I was very luck as usual of course. I called on Mr. Geyger and he gave me a pass to the Elysee Palaiz Hotel, where he is located a Champ Elysies. So he and I saw the procession from the hotel siting window of his office. This hotel is one of the most beautiful and largest in Paris
And he has a wonderful office and decorated with Gold and carvings galore. Some schack for the A.E.F. Hdq…I have been to Hdq. An average of of twice a week for the last two months delivering reports…next two months. This to when I expect to leave paris…..by the 1st Jan we will have all our patients oud of here…That is providing we do not get anymore.
...I am getting tired of the Parisian Bohemian life and when I do get back I want to lead a solemn and sober life.
I cannot understand why Dona is coming over seas for they have san excess of nurses and Physicians here now…
…you surely were fortunate escaping from the “flu” in the condition you are in…
…Hone  I won a Football bet on Kansas and –25 Fr so I have a little money to spend for dinners…
I am enclosing today paper it has a picture of the Base Hosp. at Dijon where did a week experimental work…
I am going out an take a French tub bath….

The American Expeditionary Forces was a formation of the United States Army on the Western Front of World War I. The AEF was established on July 5, 1917, in France under the command of Gen. John J. Pershing. It fought alongside French Army, British Army, Canadian Army, and Australian Army units against the Imperial German Army. A minority of the AEF troops also fought alongside Italian Army units in that same year against the Austro-Hungarian Army. The AEF helped the French Army on the Western Front during the Aisne Offensive (at the Battle of Château-Thierry and Battle of Belleau Wood) in the summer of 1918, and fought its major actions in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in the latter part of 1918.
